With new professional tracks, the companies seek to fulfill the high demand of experts in tech subjects.
Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and other technology companies are growing their presence in online platforms, like edX and Coursera, to offer more courses aimed at individuals that seek training in their software or in tech subjects.
EdX recently welcomed Amazon Web Services (AWS) to its platform. They are launching the AWS Developer Professional Series, which will teach developers how to use the AWS software.
“AWS and edX are both dedicated to providing learners with the opportunity to build upon or learn new professional skills, especially in critical areas such as cloud computing. We are excited by our collaboration, and look forward to sharing availability of new courses in the future,” stated edX on la blog post.
Moreover, Amazon announced this week that Candace Thille, an expert from Stanford’s Graduate School of Education, will be joining the company as the new Director of Learning Science and Engineering. Thille will be in charge of training Amazon’s huge workforce.
Given the growing demand for IT specialists, Coursera and Google announced the Google IT Support Professional Certificate, a program designed and taught by Google experts that aims to prepare learners with fundamental theory and lots of practice in the subject.
The course is especially aimed at groups in disadvantage. “Google.org is providing scholarships and support to nonprofits like Goodwill®, Per Scholas, Year Up, Student Veterans of America, and Upwardly Global that are bringing the certificate to underserved groups. Google is also providing full financial assistance for qualified learners in the U.S. who apply by February 20th,” said Coursera.
Microsoft, for its part, is boosting its presence on edX. Now available on the platform, the Microsoft Professional Program in IT Support offers a comprehensive curriculum of 13 courses and 1 capstone project.
Also, Microsoft has other professional certificates in edX, such as the new Cloud Administration and DevOps programs, with which the Redmond company seeks to train experts for the growing cloud business, and the Data Science, Big Data and Front-End Web Development tracks.
“As companies move to the cloud at ever growing rates, the demand for well-skilled cloud professionals continues to increase,” stated edX. “With Cloud Administration and DevOps, Microsoft is expanding to the cloud in key areas where there are sizable gaps between available skills and jobs”.
Joining the trend, the Russian giant Yandex just announced that it is partnering with Tel Aviv University to launch a program in machine learning.
