The Global EdTech Startups Awards (GESAwards) is the world’s largest EdTech competition and community. With a community of more than 6,000 startups in more than 130 countries, it is responsible for building local educational technology ecosystems and flowing EdTech investments into alternative markets. Like every year, this initiative is open to education startups worldwide that aspire to showcase their products to a global audience to create meaningful partnerships and business opportunities.
In the semi-final events in more than 20 countries, top companies will collaborate with industry leaders and the most influential educational technology organizations. Each GESAwards partner organizes a local semi-final event, which brings together a group of applicants who vie to become candidates from their region in the final. Subsequently, an international jury composed of industry leaders chooses the winners.
Interested startups have until September 15, 2022, to participate. The semi-final of Spanish-speaking Latin America will be under the charge of Tecnologico de Monterrey. It will take place during the entrepreneurship festival INCmty 2022 from November 15 to 17, while the global final this year will occur at the International Congress of Educational Innovation (CIIE by its acronym in Spanish) from January 16 to 18, 2023.
Educational startups that serve any level of training to workers can receive international recognition, valuable public relations, mentorships, cash prizes, and business development opportunities.
Recognitions
On this occasion, the GESAwards will award four substantial prizes, in addition to five special sponsor tracks.
Awards 2022:
- Best EdTech Solution: The solution addresses a specific, significant problem in the global market; its approach is innovative, shows growth potential using a sustainable business model, offers a relevant user experience, and demonstrates the viability of the product.
- Innovation: The innovation provides added-value-key pedagogy, supported by the latest technologies and innovative trends.
- Emerging Markets: Provides optimal product-market fit to emerging markets, overcoming their significant challenges.
- Social Impact: Provides a scalable solution to relevant contemporary social and global challenges.
In previous years, only one prize was awarded; however, this time, the awards will be in categories, opening a path for the ventures to be evaluated considering the contextual innovation of each solution.
Special Tracks
The alliances with sponsors involve different prizes and agreements comprised by:
- Safe and Trustworthy AI – in collaboration with EdSAFE AI Alliance.
- Next Gen Higher Education – in collaboration with Luiss University.
- AI Enabling Self-Regulated Learning – in collaboration with the Jacobs Foundation.
- Connect, Transform, Achieve! – in collaboration with the State of Israel Ministry of Education.
- Tarboot -Re-booting Cultural Treasures – in collaboration with Yad Hanadiv.
Selection criteria
Any worldwide startup incorporating educational technology can apply, regardless of participant age, gender, or geography. Although there is no strict solution-stage requirement, companies with a product on the market will have an advantage, especially before its mass distribution.
Other provisions to participate in GESAwards 2022 are the innovations that:
- Address an apparent educational problem that is relevant to the market.
- Provide an innovative pedagogical approach.
- Have an outstanding user experience.
- Show potential for exponential growth in their user base.
- Operate in the context of a sustainable business mode.
Distinguishing benefits
Before the final, the Global Edtech Startup Bootcamp, a two-day event exclusive to the finalists, provides practical tools and specialized training to develop solutions and leverage opportunities to grow participants’ businesses. This event allows sharing experiences and challenges and connecting with people in the global education technology industry.
The networking of various educational actors offers those interested in EdTech the opportunity to discuss the global expansion of their ventures and international collaboration.
