Ownership

The Observatory of Educational Innovation is a trademark owned by the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), registered with the Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial (IMPI), in accordance with the commercial notice having file number 0106546.

The document stipulates that the initiative generates products or services related to education distributed through its digital and printed channels.

Likewise, the unit is part of the Institute for the Future of Education (IFE), which belongs to the Graduate and Postgraduate Studies Department of ITESM.

Each year, it reports its activities in the “Reporte de Innovación Educativa” of the academic institution, the results of which are detailed on page 87 of the 2019-2020 edition.

As stated in the report, the initiative encourages and promotes educational innovations by analyzing and disseminating trends and experiences having the most significant impact on high school, undergraduate and graduate education.

It also adheres to the institutional value of Innovation described in the Tec21 Educational Model, which aims to provide comprehensive training and improve students’ competitiveness in their professional fields.

This plan is intended to enhance skills and competencies that allow students to become leaders who can take on the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

The model distinguishes two categories of competencies: disciplinary and transversal. The former refers to all those knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that are considered necessary for professional practice; the latter are useful for the graduates’ lives and directly impact the quality of performance in their professions.

In this context, the Observatory is an initiative to generate changes in teaching practices to improve teachers’ educational process and positively impact students.

Financing

The unit receives funding from the department of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies of ITESM. It expends its funding through a budget for analyses and dissemination of the trends that shape the future of education through the publication and distribution of Open Educational Resources (OER).

The Observatory does not receive public and/or private funds external to the university but actively seeks collaboration and alliances with higher education institutions worldwide with similar objectives. Its resources are used to finance the daily operation of the organization and projects that emanate from it.

In compliance with the institutional value of Integrity, embodied in the 2030 Strategic Plan, the initiative manages the institution’s resources in an austere and honest manner.

The program mentioned above proposes a new stage of transformation for ITESM. It maintains the institute’s essence and builds on its past achievements to focus on a more humane, innovative future for the community’s well-being.
