The dizzying pace of the labor market evolution requires continuous renewal of the skills demanded by industry and society. This means that the learning process no longer ends with obtaining a university degree or technical diploma; instead, it is now a journey of lifelong learning. Occupations, careers, and professional skills are constantly reconfigured, meaning people must adapt to stay competitive in the job market.
In this context, the notion of skills has evolved significantly from just possessing theoretical and technical knowledge to having the skills, competencies, qualities, talents, and applicable knowledge necessary to excel in the world of work. In addition, the proliferation of new technologies that trigger educational innovation is transforming how we acquire these skills.
Here, the fifth annual TecPrize Challenge steps in as an effort to identify and support the best high-impact EdTech solutions in Latin America:
How can young people and adults in Latin America and the Caribbean develop the most in-demand digital or labor skills to mitigate the talent gap and positively impact their communities?
This year’s TecPrize call was open from July 1 to August 29. Analyzing 200 applications from 26 countries, an international jury of experts from various organizations selected the ten finalists for the TecPrize 2024 Challenge. Here are the finalist’s initiatives:
