Research reveals that the student’s inability to read adequately in early educational stages affects learning onward. To address this early literacy crisis, MIT, Harvard and Florida State University team up to ensure that all children read well enough by the end of the third grade.
Reach Every Reader is the name of this collaboration that aims to provide schools, teachers, parents and students with the necessary tools to solve this critical learning challenge. The MIT Integrated Learning Initiative (MITili), the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) and the Florida State University (FSU) will research personalized learning and intervention to improve childhood literacy.
According to HGSE’s announcement, this partnership will create diagnostic web tools, detect intervention opportunities in favor of better reading at home and at school, develop tools that support practitioners and parents, and design solutions for other challenges facing education.
The goal of Reach Every Reader is to ensure kindergarten readiness, third-grade literacy and math, high school transitions and post-secondary success applying instructional strategies around personalized learning.
To boost the scope of this effort, the Chan Zuckerberg initiative, co-founded by Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg, will fund Read Every Reader with a $ 30 million grant.
