The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has launched a new initiative called  “Creating Scientists: Learning by Connecting, Doing and Making” to give undergraduate students more hands-on research and collaborative learning through real-world problems. Courses will integrate sciences with arts and humanities in order to tackle today’s challenges. “Bringing scientific solutions to a community requires a humanistic lens combined with effective collaboration and communication skills,” states a message from Chancellor Folt on the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan.

“Creating Scientists”, the primary major theme in the institution’s “quality enhancement plan” (QEP), promotes a mindset focused on experiential learning, which is reinforced through three pillars: Connecting, Doing, and Making.
